Privacy & cookies

Your visit. Your choice.

This is Joe Hummel’s personal website. You can read everything here without accepting analytics.

Optional analytics

If you accept, I use Heap to understand visits, navigation, and clicks so I can improve the site and see which writing and projects are useful. Heap may collect page URLs, referring pages, interactions, browser and device information, and cookie identifiers that connect visits. This site does not send Heap your name or email, and session recording is disabled.

Heap is not loaded until you accept. Rejecting analytics, or leaving the banner unanswered, means your activity is not sent to Heap. Accepting later does not recover activity from before your choice.

Cookies and your choice

This site stores your accept or reject preference in your browser for 180 days, separately on each hostname. This necessary preference storage is used only to remember your choice. Clearing browser storage or using another browser may cause the question to appear again.

When enabled, Heap uses first-party cookies to recognize a browser and session. Heap documents a lifetime of up to 13 months minus one day for its main analytics cookie. See Heap’s cookie details.

lets you withdraw permission at any time. Withdrawing stops future collection, clears this environment’s Heap cookies, and reloads the page to unload the tracker. It does not automatically delete information already collected.

Hosting and external links

AWS Amplify hosts this site. Delivering pages involves processing technical request information such as an IP address; hosting services may maintain operational and security logs independently of optional Heap analytics. Links to LinkedIn, GitHub, and other websites take you to services with their own privacy practices.

Questions about your data

Joe Hummel is responsible for this site’s use of analytics. You can contact me on LinkedIn with privacy questions or requests about access or deletion. Heap processes analytics on my behalf; more information is available in Heap’s privacy policy.

A little insight, with your permission.

I use Heap analytics to understand which pages and projects people find useful. With your permission, it uses cookies to measure visits and clicks. Session recording is off. You can browse the whole site without accepting.
